Defensive back DeShon Singleton had a chance to turn pro but instead opted to return to Nebraska for his senior season. Now he’s promising Husker fans an exciting season opener vs. Cincinnati at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
Singleton had a colorful quote to describe the first game on the slate for Nebraska.
“We finna make people in wheelchairs stand up,” Singleton said.
The 6-foot-3 Singleton previously explained the reasoning behind coming back for another season at Nebraska.
The turning point for me is I sat down, talked about it with my family,” Singleton said, via SI.com. “I feel like God blessed with me with another opportunity that just came out of nowhere. I mean, you have to take it so I just took that opportunity.
During his 3 seasons with the Huskers, Singleton has tallied 93 total tackles, 4 pass deflections, and an interception.
Nebraska went 7-6 last season in its second season under Matt Rhule, capped off with a 20-15 victory vs. Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl. It was Nebraska’s first bowl win since 2015.
Nebraska vs. Cincinnati is slated for Aug. 28 at 9 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN. This is only the second meeting between the programs, with Nebraska blanking Cincinnati 41-0 in the lone contest in 1906.
