Alabama coach Nick Saban lured in an all-time recruiting class as the Crimson Tide was ranked No. 1 in the country on Wednesday as National Signing Day delivered the latest crop of talent to Tuscaloosa.

“For the most part, we were able to accomplish what we wanted to accomplish with this class,” Saban told the media. “… We got some quality big people that can help us.”

On the SEC Network, Saban said, “We got a lot of really good players, and we got players in positions of need.”

As Alabama shifts to spring practice, Saban said that Alabama had 15 players who started in January with the program, and that’s going to be a tremendous benefit for them to be able to acclimate.

Given the losses to the NFL not only this past season, but two years ago, he identified one position that has a lot of new faces with potential.

“There’s gonna be a lot of opportunities at a lot of positions, but especially at wide receiver for these guys to make a contribution,” Saban said.

While he was a 4-star recruit, and just the 10th-rated player in this class, Saban spoke about what the Alabama staff saw in QB Jalen Milroe out of Katy, Texas.

“We really liked his skill set,” Saban said. “He’s very athletic. He’s very accurate as a passer. … We’re excited to have him here. He was one of the top guys in the country, in our opinion.”
