For the first time in program history, the New Mexico Lobos are ranked in the AP Top 25.
The Lobos come in at No. 22 in this week’s rankings after downing San Jose State 21-16 Saturday night. New Mexico, coached by Jason Eck, sits at 7-1 on the season with a lone loss to Oklahoma in Norman by a score of 14-6. That, of course, was back in September.
The Lobos are ranked ahead of teams such as Florida, South Carolina and Arizona.

New Mexico is the 2nd highest-ranked G6 program in the country behind Boise State out of the Pac-12. The Lobos will need to win out and win the Mountain West title to be considered for the G6 spot in the College Football Playoff.
It certainly won’t be easy. The Lobos have to face UNLV in Week 11, followed by a trip to Wyoming in Week 12. UNLV and Wyoming have a combined 2 losses in conference play this season.
Next up, the Lobos are set to face off against a Nevada squad that just lost 27-0 to UCLA. The game will be played at Nevada and is set to kick off at 9 p.m. ET Friday night on CBS Sports Network.
