New Mexico releases hilarious fake depth chart to troll Michigan, who doesn’t release 2-deep

New Mexico is gearing up for its Week 1 season opener against Michigan in Ann Arbor.
We do know that the Wolverines will start true freshman Bryce Underwood at quarterback as the heralded recruit and Detroit native looks to lead his team back to the national championship. And while there are some ideas around who else is starting, we’ll have to wait until Saturday to see how the depth chart shakes out. That’s because Michigan didn’t release a 2-deep.
New Mexico, however, has. There’s a catch, though. The Lobos’ 2-deep is made up of entirely fictional characters. Specifically, they’re characters in Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, and Leonardo DiCaprio movies. Take a look below as it appeared on the Lobos’ X account on Tuesday.
The Lobos, who went 5-7 in Bronco Mendenhall’s first season in 2024, will be a heavy underdog as they travel to the Big House to face the Wolverines. But that doesn’t mean that they aren’t having some fun in the lead-up to the contest, while taking a jab at their Week 1 opponent in the process.
New Mexico’s actual, real-life players — and not Jerry Maguire (or Forrest Gump or Jordan Belfort, for that matter) — will kick off against Michigan at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised on NBC and streamed on Peacock.
