A new status was revealed on Friday night for Tennessee defensive lineman Jaxson Moi, who was downgraded to doubtful on the Volunteers’ official injury report for Saturday afternoon’s SEC showdown against No. 6 Georgia.

The 15th-ranked Volunteers will host the Bulldogs in a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Neyland Stadium, and it appears they might have to try to contain the Georgia offense without one of their best defensive players. The injury report is the 3rd of 4 updates before Tennessee and Georgia play their SEC opener.

The final injury update for the game will be issued 90 minutes before kickoff on game day, so there is still a chance that Moi could play, although it’s not looking good. The Week 3 SEC showdown will be on ABC, as both powerhouses look to start their SEC slate off on the right foot.

Moi suffered an upper-body injury in Tennessee’s Week 1 victory over Syracuse, and the senior from California was ruled out for the Volunteers’ Week 2 home opener against East Tennessee State early last week. This week, Moi’s status is still in doubt right up until game day, and the definitive word on Moi will be revealed on Saturday afternoon.

Tennessee will be trying to beat Georgia for the first time since 2016, with the Bulldogs coming into Knoxville with an 8-game winning streak in the series. Georgia leads the all-time series, 29-23-2.
