Garrett Nussmeier endured a disappointing senior season at LSU in 2025 as he dealt with what was previously reported as a torso injury.

However, we now know more about what was causing Nussmeier’s pain during the 2025 season. According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Nussmeier had a cyst on his spine that was “pressing on a nerve” and causing oblique issues.

According to Pelissero, the cyst was discovered via tests conducted by doctors at the NFL combine earlier this offseason. The report also added that Nussmeier could address the issue with surgery in the future but he’s currently asymptomatic.

This report comes just days before the start of the 2026 NFL Draft. Nussmeier is expected to hear his name called at some point over the 3-day event, but there’s not much certainty with regards to his draft stock.

Nussmeier’s senior season was clearly impacted by his injury. From 2024 to 2025, Nussmeier’s yards-per-attempt dropped from 7.7 to 6.7. He threw just 12 touchdown passes in 9 games before shutting things down late in the year.
