After missing the entire 2019 season, Jordan Reed is giving it another go in the NFL.

When healthy, Reed is one of the more explosive tight ends in the entire NFL. The problem is, he hasn’t been able to stay on the field recently due to concussions.

During the 2019 preseason, Reed suffered his seventh documented concussion. That injury would eventually force him to miss the entire season.

Now, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Reed is making a comeback with his former coach Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco. The 49ers are giving Reed a one-year deal described by Schefter as “incentive-laden” for the upcoming NFL season.

Reed has spent his entire NFL career in Washington after being selected in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He has caught 329 passes for 3,371 yards and 24 touchdowns in his six seasons on the field for the franchise.

Now he’ll be rejoined by Shanahan and teamed with arguably the NFL’s best tight end in George Kittle. If Reed manages to maximize his talent in San Francisco, the 49ers may just send a pair of tight ends to the Pro Bowl by season’s end.
