Nick Saban was the coach at Alabama when Bryce Young was the star quarterback for the Crimson Tide, and the team has another supestar leading the program in Keelon Russell.

During an appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’, Saban said he sees similarities between Young and Russell.

“The maturity that he plays with and he shows for a guy that is a young player is pretty phenomenal to me,” Saban said. “His instincts as a player and his ability to make plays. He is a playmaker. I always called Bryce Young a point guard playing quarterback. This guy is very similar. This is a guy that has special instincts.”

Russell wasn’t even named the starting quarterback on Aug. 22, and has quickly become one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He has continued to get better in each of his starts, as he has thrown for 970 yards and 10 touchdowns in his last three games.

He will look to continue his strong play on Saturday, when the Crimson Tide hosts Georgia in the biggest game in Week 6. These have been arguably the two most dominant teams in the first five weeks of the season, and the Bulldogs defense will pose a challenge that Russell hasn’t seen yet.

If he is able to continue his strong play and get the win on Saturday, then the hype train behind Russell is only going to continue to grow.
