There isn’t really a question of who stars for Alabama on offense and defense, but the Crimson Tide’s best players on special teams don’t receive nearly as much attention. Head coach Nick Saban changed that a little bit during his radio show on Thursday.
“Ale (Kaho) is probably, I would say, the most valuable guy on our team when it comes to special teams,” Saban said Thursday night. “He is just a phenomenal special teams player. He’s a very instinctive guy. He can run fast. He’s really, really tough.
“And I think the big thing that we’ve tried to continue to get him to progress on as a linebacker is assignments — being able to understand the concept of the defense, where he fits in the defense, how he fits the various plays.”
The sophomore led the team with special teams tackles last season, and he’s already earned special teams player of the week honors at Alabama in four games this season — all of which were conference matchups.
Last season, he posted 11 total tackles in 15 games. Kaho already has 13 tackles this season. Against Ole Miss, he covered a blocked punt for a touchdown.
