Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer is starting to feel the heat after losing last weekend at previously unranked Florida State. However, his legendary predecessor is pledging his public support for the new man in charge of the Crimson Tide.
During the Week 2 edition of ESPN’s College GameDay, Nick Saban responded to Pat McAfee’s suggestion that DeBoer is now on the hot seat. Saban believes DeBoer is doing his best to turn the Tide back around and he has his back.
“He wants to do well, and he’s gonna do everything he can to do well,” Saban said. “We’re gonna support him to do that.”
DeBoer went 9-4 last season in his first year at the helm of the Crimson Tide. Alabama hasn’t had an on-field losing season since 2006, falling to 6-7 after losing the bowl game before Saban’s tenure began in 2007. (Saban’s 2007 team officially has an adjusted record of 2-6 due to NCAA infractions, but went 7-6 on the field.)
Alabama fell 31-17 in Tallahassee, 1 of the biggest Week 1 stunners of all time. Next up for the Crimson Tide is their home opener vs. UL Monroe. Alabama leads the all-time series 2-1 vs. UL Monroe. Alabama has won the last 2 meetings. In the most recent contest, Alabama routed UL Monroe 63-7 in 2022.
UL Monroe vs. Alabama will kick off at 7:45 p.m. ET (SEC Network).
