Nick Saban raves about Mississippi State QB Kamario Taylor: ‘Real deal’

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are in year 3 of the Jeff Lebby era, and many around the program believe that they have a budding superstar at quarterback in sophomore Kamario Taylor.
Lebby and his staff secured the biggest recruiting win of their tenure when they convinced the Mississippi native to stay home and commit to the Bulldogs over several other major SEC programs in 2025.
Now in his first season at the helm, folks around the country are also starting to take notice of the immense potential Taylor possesses. This includes former Alabama head coach Nick Saban, who described the 6’4, 230-pounder as “the real deal” on the Pat McAfee show.
“He’s the real deal, man,” Saban said. “He’s the truth, and the light… Just watching the guy play, a little bit last year and a lot this year, then talking to Jeff Lebby. I mean, this guy is a very good passer, but athletic man, and can run, can makes plays on his own. So, I think this guy is going to be a big-time surprise for a lot of people in the SEC.”

If there’s one person who understands what an elite college quarterback looks like, it’s Saban, and the fact that Taylor has caught his attention in this way speaks volumes to the potential he has under center.
If Taylor can continue growing into the type of player Saban thinks he can become, then Mississippi could be looking at a guy who has the kind of impact that Dak Prescott had on the program a decade ago.
