Nick Saban announced that he would be retiring on Wednesday, and with the landscape-altering decision comes another potentially game-changing outcome.

The entirety of Alabama’s football roster has now been granted the freedom to move on from the program. Any high school recruit in the Class of 2024 can be released from his national letter of intent as long as they have not been registered as “attended” at the university yet. And, any active player on the roster now has a 30-day window to transfer to another program following the announcement of Saban’s retirement.

Thus, this now means that players such as Jalen Milroe, Isaiah Bond, Kadyn Proctor and Caleb Downs are technically able to transfer to another program with no penalty. It will certainly be intriguing to watch how the pursuit of some of Alabama’s top prospects progresses, or if the Crimson Tide players opt to stay in Tuscaloosa regardless of a coaching change.

Alabama signed the 247Sports Composite’s No. 2 2024 recruiting class. UA landed 27 commitments, including 3 5-stars and 19 4-star prospects.
