Nick Saban says road matchups at Mississippi State were ‘always a trap game’

Nick Saban is regarded as one of the best football coaches of all-time, and a big reason why was his ability to motivate his players regardless of the opponent. Throughout a college football season, there are going to be times when a coach has to make sure his team is ready to play and avoid a letdown in a ‘trap game’.

While speaking about Week 5’s top-20 clash between Alabama and Mississippi State on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ Friday afternoon, Saban recalled that games in Starkville were among the toughest to prepare for. Here’s what he had to say:

“It is always a trap game when Alabama goes to Mississippi State,” Saban said. “It was one of the hardest games for me to get our players up for, to respect Mississippi State for as good as they were, and to play in that environment.”

Many of the times Saban went there, the Bulldogs weren’t looked at as a team like they are now. With Kamario Taylor performing like one of the best quarterbacks in college football, the Bulldogs are undefeated and are entering this game with as much hype as they have had in long time. Saban also mentioned the cowbells ringing throughout the game, creating a unique atmosphere that figures to be a huge factor in Saturday’s game.

The Crimson Tide have a huge game coming up when Georgia comes to town next weekend, and Kalen DeBoer is going to have to make sure he has his players ready to go in that game.
