Nick Saban shares optimism for Arkansas football under Ryan Silverfield

Legendary coach Nick Saban is optimistic about the Ryan Silverfield era in Fayetteville.
Saban spoke about Arkansas football after meeting Silverfield at SEC Media Days in Tampa this week. He had strong, positive things to say about Silverfield and expressed optimism about the future.
“Ryan Silverfield probably has the toughest job of all these guys,” Saban said. “I think they only won 2 games last year or whatever, so probably needs to do a lot. But I do think from talking to him, he’s got the right disposition and patience about it, he loves the place, and I think he knows what he needed to do to try and build it there.”

Arkansas did indeed go 2-10 last season, firing Sam Pittman midway through the year. Pittman had success early on in his tenure at Arkansas, but the Razorbacks have now missed out on the postseason in 2 of the past 3 seasons.
Silverfield arrives at Arkansas after a successful stint at Memphis. The offensive-minded head coach brought in numerous transfers on both sides of the ball this offseason as the Razorbacks look to get back to bowl eligibility in 2026.
Quarterback KJ Jackson does return after seeing limited playing time last season as a redshirt freshman. He completed 61% of his passes for 441 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions, with much of that production coming against SEC opposition.
Arkansas will host Northern Alabama on Sept. 5.
