No time to party? Nick Saban says he’s never been to a tailgate

Nick Saban has played college football and coached both college and NFL football, but there is one essential “football” experience in which Saban has never partaken.

With celebrations of the 150th season of college football coming, all-time lists and fan experiences were some of the unique topics (for a post-practice press conference) to come up during Saban’s Thursday meeting with the media. It led to Saban shared an amusing fact: he has never tailgated.

“Well, I’m not a fan. I’ve never been to … what do you call it when you get in the parking lot?” Saban said, pausing, “tailgating. I’ve never been to one of those.”

One can only imagine the Alabama fans who would love to be able to claim they hosted the first tailgate Saban ever attended. Since he hasn’t found time for a tailgate in more than four decades of coaching, it will probably have to wait until he finally decides to retire (assuming he actually retires one day).
