Notre Dame schedules home /home series with Big Ten program

Notre Dame has been a talking point in college football because the Fighting Irish are an Independent and don’t have to go through a conference gauntlet like the other teams. The Fighting Irish have been criticized over the last couple of years for this. They lost the rivalry with USC for the next couple of seasons, but the Fighting Irish announced on Wednesday that they have set up a home-and-home series with Nebraska.
The two teams will start the series in 2032 in Lincoln, and the following year, the game will be in South Bend.
Not playing in a conference has put Notre Dame in a situation where the Fighting Irish aren’t playing an extremely difficult schedule. They have two tough games this year against BYU and Miami. Last year they played the Hurricanes, and that game played a huge role in them being left out of the College Football Playoff.
In college football, there is a huge talking point on whether or not teams should schedule difficult non-conference games. Some coaches are hesitant to schedule top teams because they don’t feel it’s worth scheduling those tough games. Indiana won the national championship last year, and the Hoosiers haven’t played a tough non-conference schedule since Curt Cignetti became the coach.
Next up for Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish are set to host Michigan State.
