Ochaun Mathis is a pass rusher who’s in demand, and he’s considering an SEC program among his top 5 that he announced on Thursday.
Ole Miss joined Texas, Southern Cal, Penn State and Nebraska.
Mathis is among the best pass rushers in the transfer portal, as he entered it about a month ago. At TCU, Mathis had 133 tackles, 26 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks in his career. Mathis was known as one of the best players in the Big 12, and even represented the Horned Frogs at Big 12 media days.
He made 2 appearances on the All-Big 12 team. In 2019 he was named second-team and he picked up the same honors in 2020. He was a preseason first-team All-Big 12 selection prior to the start of the 2021 season, Horned Frog Blitz reported.
Many fans won’t forget his career game in a 34-18 win over Texas Tech. Against the Red Raiders, which entered the game with the least amount of sacks allowed per game, Mathis totaled a career-high three sacks. In the season finale against Louisiana Tech, Mathis finished with a career-high nine tackles and 2.0 sacks.
Originally a 2018 recruit, Mathis has largely exceeded expectations as he came out of high school as a 3-star defensive end out of Manor, Texas. He was ranked as the No. 36 weakside defensive end in the nation according to 247Sports.
