Oklahoma baseball has definitely had better days.

The Sooners’ season has officially come to an end at the hands of No. 5 overall seed North Carolina, which dispatched Oklahoma 14-4 in Monday’s elimination game.

And while the Tar Heels were the victors on Monday, Oklahoma put up a strong fight at the Chapel Hill Regional, beating Nebraska twice and finishing 1-2 against the nationally ranked Tar Heels. The Sooners finish their season 38-22, while North Carolina advances to face Arizona in the Super Regional.

The Sooners bullpen held up fairly well against their competition this weekend, but the power of North Carolina’s bats just became too much on Monday. Jackson Van De Brake and Gavin Gallaher had fantastic outings, combining for 7 hits, 6 RBIs and 3 home runs – all 3 of which came in the final 2 innings.

Here’s Gallaher’s final blast, a 3-run shot to left, which put the finishing touches on a Tar Heels win:

While the Tar Heels eventually made it a one-sided affair, Oklahoma’s bats kept things competitive early. After North Carolina put 3 runs on the board in the first inning, Oklahoma responded with a pair of runs off the bat of Drew Dickerson in the 2nd inning.

Sadly for Oklahoma, North Carolina began to pull away the following inning. North Carolina went on to score 4 runs in the 3rd, 2 of which came with a pair of outs.

Jason Walk didn’t want to go away quietly, though. The Oklahoma outfielder launched a solo home run in the bottom of the 7th, making it an 8-3 ballgame. Unfortunately, North Carolina wasted no time slamming the door shut with 3 home runs by Van De Brake and Gallaher.
