Oklahoma fans call for John Mateer to be benched following catastrophic first half

John Mateer posted truly catastrophic first half for the Oklahoma Sooners.
The stat line doesn’t do Mateer’s first half justice. He was mostly efficient as a passer but also committed a few backbreaking turnovers that led to Georgia scores, including an unforced fumble returned 80+ yards for a touchdown. Combined with his previous struggles this season for Oklahoma, Saturday’s ugly start was enough for some fans to call for the Sooners to bench him.
Despite this, Sooners head coach Brent Venables decided to keep Mateer on the field entering the second half. As it currently stands, Georgia leads Oklahoma 28-6 with 10 minutes remaining in the 3rd.
