Oklahoma LB Kip Lewis leaves after non-contact injury, won’t return vs. Michigan

Oklahoma suffered a big injury blow during its Week 2 game against Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday.
Sooners linebacker Kip Lewis was forced to exit the game in the first half after suffering an injury. He attempted to go back in but went “back to the sideline in frustration,” according to OU Daily. FOX later said that Lewis was “done for the day.”
Cameras showed Lewis in pursuit of a Michigan ball carrier with about five minutes gone by in the first quarter before pulling up with a non-contact injury, which is never a good sign.
If Lewis is out for any length of time, it would be a damaging loss for the Sooners’ defense as they look to return to the College Football Playoff. Lewis, a fifth-year senior, was an All-SEC second-team preseason pick after totaling a team-high 76 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, and 4.0 sacks in 2025.
He announced in the offseason that he would return to Oklahoma for his final year of eligibility, in lieu of declaring for the NFL Draft. As for his injury, we’ll wait to hear from Brent Venables after the game about what the initial word is on the talented veteran linebacker.
