Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer was recognized as the 10th fastest player of Week 3 by Reel Analytics.

In Oklahoma’s dominant 42-3 win over the Temple Owls, Mateer took a designed run in the 3rd quarter, 51 yards to the endzone. On this run, Mateer hit a max speed of 20.3 mph, making him the 10th fastest player in Week 3 of college football. It took Mateer 3.8 seconds to reach this speed, and he went into the end zone untouched.

Watching the run, it looked like Mateer wasn’t even at his top speed.

Mateer had a solid game by his standards against the Owls. He completed 20 of his 34 passing attempts for 282 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. He added 63 yards on the ground, including his 51-yard touchdown rush above.

The former Washington State quarterback has surprised many in his year with Oklahoma. In 3 games, Mateer has thrown for 944 yards at a 67.6% completion rate, 5 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 161 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Mateer now finds himself in 2nd in the Heisman Trophy odds at +900 at BetMGM, only trailing Miami quarterback Carson Beck (+700). Oklahoma will look to stay hot as it hosts the No. 22 Auburn Tigers on Saturday.
