The location will now permit tailgating on the grassy area between the Lindsey Street curb and the north side of the sidewalk.
The area previously became blocked off to tailgating in 2017 because of the desire to maintain the grass alongside a dorm that was built.
“Several factors were taken into consideration including security concerns with the new student housing facilities along Lindsey Street, the planting of sod along this newly-renovated area and the general policy of not allowing tailgating in the vicinity of student housing,” OU Press Secretary Matt Epting said at the time.
The celebrated reversal comes after several years of complaints and as Oklahoma prepares to join the SEC in the summer of 2024.
The first game with the added tailgating area will be when Oklahoma hosts Arkansas State on Sept. 2 (noon ET).
