The No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels are looking to get back in the win column this week, but they have their hands full on the road against the No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners and their high-octane offense.
Oklahoma’s passing game in particular has been very potent early on, with star quarterback John Mateer carving up a beleaguered Rebels’ secondary that had trouble last weekend against Georgia.
Ole Miss’s struggles in the secondary were perfectly illustrated early on in the second quarter when Mateer connected with junior wide receiver Isaiah Sategna for a massive touchdown that tied the game up at 10.
Mateer found the speedster on a crossing route, and a busted Ole Miss coverage sprung what would have been a modest completion on third down into a 76-yard house call that swung all the momentum back in the Sooners’ favor.
Sategna has emerged as a significant threat on the outside for Oklahoma over the course of the 2025 season, entering this game with 43 receptions for 493 yards and 4 touchdowns, averaging a remarkable 13.3 yards per reception.
Sooners’ head coach Brent Venables went into the portal to grab the speedy former Arkansas Razorback to add some more explosiveness to his team’s offense, and he’s delivered that today against Ole Miss.
