Ole Miss coach Matt Luke discusses protests in the NFL and what he’s told his team

Over the weekend, fans watched as many NFL teams participated in protests during the national anthem, from linking arms to kneeling to remaining in the locker room.
Though we haven’t seen any similar protests in the college ranks, they could be coming as soon as this weekend.
On Wednesday, Ole Miss interim coach Matt Luke said he doesn’t expect the Rebels to participate in any protests, but added that he believes in freedom of expression (via OxfordEagle.com):
“This country is based on people having the right to have their own opinions,” Luke said. “I just want everybody to be together and unified. That would be my wish. But I can only focus on this team, and it hasn’t been an issue.”
Though Luke doesn’t seem to think any Rebels will participate in a protest, his statements would seem to lend support should an Ole Miss player decide to do something.
We’ll have to see what happens in the college football world this weekend, but it appears nothing will be occurring at the Ole Miss-Alabama game.
