Ole Miss downgrades Kewan Lacy to doubtful; Texas upgrades Hollywood Smothers to probable on Friday night

Ole Miss got some potentially devastating news on Friday night when the latest SEC injury reports were released.
Rebels star running back Kewan Lacy was downgraded to doubtful for Saturday afternoon’s showdown at No. 21 Florida. So, No. 4 Ole Miss could be without 1 of its top weapons when it travels to Gainesville for the big matchup that kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
Lacy was injured during the Rebels’ Week 3 victory over LSU, and he was listed as questionable on the first 2 editions of this week’s SEC availability report. But Friday night’s report brought a different status for Lacy, and not an update that Ole Miss fans wanted to hear on the eve of the Week 4 matchup.
Meanwhile, Friday night’s injury report produced some good news for the team that wears burnt orange and plays in Austin. While Lacy might miss Saturday’s matchup, another star running back in the SEC, Texas‘s Hollywood Smothers, was upgraded to probable for Saturday afternoon’s huge showdown at No. 14 Tennessee (noon ET, ABC).
The top-ranked Longhorns had the same fears about Smothers’ status earlier in the week, when he appeared on the initial injury report as questionable with a lower leg injury. Things didn’t change regarding Smothers’ status on Thursday, but on Friday night his status did change, and for the better, to probable.
Smothers missed practice on Thursday, but apparently his condition has improved enough from 24 hours ago for Texas to list Smothers as probable instead of questionable.
