Ole Miss is attempting to hire Marcus Woodson away from Kansas State, according to a report.

That news comes from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, who notes that Woodson is currently the co-defensive coordinator at K-State. It’s not yet clear what role Woodson would have in Oxford should his hiring become official.

Woodson was hired by Kansas State earlier this offseason and has not yet coached a full season with the Wildcats. He was most recently with Arkansas from 2023-25 and also also coached at Florida State and Auburn during his career.

Woodson is an Ole Miss alum. He played safety for the Rebels from 1999-2002 before beginning his coaching career a few years later. He’s also a Mississippi native, hailing from Moss Point.

Woodson would be joining a defensive staff led by head coach Pete Golding. It’s unclear at this time what role Woodson will have in Oxford, though Woodson is presumably stepping into the spot that was previously held by Patrick Toney. Toney left Ole Miss for a job with the Atlanta Falcons in late February.
