A new era could be unfolding under center in Oxford, Mississippi, as the Ole Miss Rebels are once again expected to start senior transfer Trinidad Chambliss against the No. 4 LSU Tigers this Saturday, according to On3.
The former Ferris State Bulldogs’ star took over for an injured Austin Simmons back in Week 3 against the Arkansas Razorbacks and has been absolutely phenomenal since then for the Rebels.
An electric dual-threat gunslinger, Chambliss has put up insane numbers both through the air and on the ground over the past couple of weeks, racking up 914 total yards and 6 total touchdowns.
Now with Simmons’ injury status still up in the air heading into the weekend, Chambliss appears to be in line for his first real test as a starter in the SEC, as the Rebs will be taking on one of the top defenses in all of college football in LSU.
If he does end up being named the starter against the Bayou Bengals, then Chambliss will have to utilize all the tools he has in his elite skillset to guide Ole Miss to their biggest win of the season.
If he can do that, then he’ll have put himself firmly in contention for the title of biggest star in college football, and could very well wind up generating some serious Heisman Trophy buzz in the process.
