Ole Miss hoped to exact some revenge against Kentucky on Saturday given what happened when these programs met a year ago in Oxford.

So far, though, the Rebels have struggled to accomplish anything on offense against the Wildcats. That’s largely because of mistakes from Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons, who is making his first-ever start vs. an SEC opponent on Saturday.

Simmons threw a pair of damaging interceptions in the first quarter. One, which was an errant corner route picked off by Kentucky’s Ty Bryant, led directly to the Wildcats taking a 7-0 lead a few plays later.

Simmons’ second interception happened on the third play of the ensuing drive for the Rebels. Simmons tried to force a deep ball over the middle, which was picked off by Bryant again.

It’s been a frustrating afternoon to say the least for Ole Miss fans, who have been expecting Simmons to seamlessly take the place of Jaxson Dart. Instead, though, it appears there are more growing pains to come.

Some fans have even wondered if Lane Kiffin could turn to Trinidad Chambliss before the day is over. Here’s some of the early social media reaction:
