The Ole Miss Rebels landed a quality 2027 commitment Friday, as 4-star defensive back Darrell Mattison flipped his pledge from Michigan to Ole Miss.
Mattison, a 6-foot-1 prospect from Morgan Park High School in Chicago, is a 4-star prospect according to the 247 Sports Composite ratings and is the 37th-best safety in the country. In addition to the Wolverines, Mattison turned down offers from Cincinnati, Illinois and Indiana.
A wiry defensive back with range, physicality and ball skills, Mattison finished his junior season at Morgan Park with 47 tackles, five interceptions, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery. He also added two kickoff returns for touchdowns for the Mustangs, who went 9-5 and won the Chicago Public League championship.

Ole Miss now has 10 commitments in the 2027 class, including fellow 4-star pledges Ben’Jarvius Shumaker, Taelyn Mayo, Keegan Croucher and Jamarkus Pittman.
The Rebels are coming off the program’s first College Football Playoff berth and a 13-2 overall record. Former coach Lane Kiffin bolted the program for LSU shortly before the CFP announcement, with former defensive coordinator Pete Golding taking over as head coach.
Ole Miss kicks off the 2026 season Sept. 6 against Louisville in Nashville (7:30 pm, ABC). The Rebels open the home slate Sept. 12 against Charlotte before welcoming Kiffin and LSU to Oxford on Sept. 19.
