Ole Miss and Auburn will both be trying to shake off tough losses from Week 8 when they clash in Oxford in Week 9.
For the Rebels, it was a heartbreaking end in Austin on Saturday night as they stormed back from a 3-touchdown halftime deficit only to fall short against Arch Manning and Texas in a 34-27 loss. The defeat knocked Ole Miss from the top 10, as it fell 5 spots in Sunday’s new poll from No. 7 to No. 12.
It was also the Rebels’ 2nd loss of the season, as they sit at 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC with Auburn coming to town this Saturday. The Tigers will be doing their own soul searching this week as they try to rebound from Saturday’s home blowout loss to LSU, which came exactly 1 week after Auburn took down Georgia in Athens.
So, it’s been a roller-coaster couple weeks for the Tigers (4-3, 2-3 SEC) and now comes a huge challenge playing on the road this Saturday (12:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network) against yet another ranked team in Ole Miss.
Lately, the SEC rivalry has belonged to the Rebels, who have beaten Auburn 2 straight times. The Tigers lead the all-time series though in a big way, with a 35-12 advantage in a rivalry that dates back to 1928.
But what about this year? What about this Saturday in Oxford?
According to the opening betting line revealed by Circa Sports on Sunday, Ole Miss has been installed as a hefty 13.5-point favorite with an over-under point total of 56.
So, the oddsmakers are giving the home team a good chance to beat Auburn for the third straight time, as both teams look to get off the canvas after a brutal Week 8.
