Ole Miss releases video of players learning about Pete Golding’s promotion
Ole Miss football went through an exhausting, emotional Sunday with head coach Lane Kiffin finally announcing that he was leaving Oxford to take the head coaching job at SEC rival LSU.
With the Rebels getting ready for the College Football Playoff after an 11-1 regular season, these are important times for a program trying to get to the mountaintop. Suddenly, Ole Miss needed a new guy in charge, and that guy will be Pete Golding, who was promoted from defensive coordinator on Sunday. Golding was finishing his 3rd season in Oxford as Kiffin’s defensive coordinator, but now everything has changed.
Instead of just running the defense, Golding will be running everything, and he’ll be doing it with the highest stakes imaginable in the Playoff. Those Rebels players have a new voice now and video was released on Sunday night of those players finding out that Golding was their new head coach.
The Ole Miss football social media account celebrated that released video with a post that had the headline, “Leader of Men.” And when it was announced to the players that Golding was the new guy in charge, the meeting room erupted, a huge and immediate vote of confidence for Golding.
And when Golding was introduced to those players and walked to the front of the room to make a speech to them, those Rebels players gave him a standing ovation.
Clearly, Golding made a grand entrance on Sunday, and now it’ll be up to him to make sure his new team makes a grand impression in the College Football Playoff.
