Lane Kiffin is reportedly adding a top up-and-coming defensive assistant to his Ole Miss staff. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, Western Kentucky defensive coordinator Maurice Crum is headed to Oxford to be the Rebels’ co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
Crum, 35, was a two-time captain at Notre Dame during his collegiate career (2005-08) before playing professionally in the UFL with the Sacramento Mountain Lions from 2009-to-2011. He got into coaching in 2012 as a graduate assistant on Charlie Weis’ Kansas staff. Crum stayed at KU for 2 more seasons in off-field roles before returning to Notre Dame as a grad assistant.
Crum’s first one-field job was in 2016 as Indiana State’s cornerbacks and nickelbacks coach. In 2017, he joined the Western Kentucky staff as linebackers coach and added the co-special teams coordinator title in 2018. Crum became WKU’s co-defensive coordinator in 2020 and sole DC in 2021.
Crum’s WKU bio can be viewed here.
What Ole Miss is getting in Maurice Crum:
— Made 42 straight starts as a linebacker at Notre Dame
— One of just 24 two-time captains in Notre Dame’s 135-year history
— Led by Crum as DC, Western Kentucky held seven of its last eight regular season opponents to 21 points or less https://t.co/OJZOPk3LPv— Matt Zenitz (@mzenitz) February 17, 2022
