Ole Miss soars into top 5 of ESPN’s updated power rankings after Week 3

Ole Miss moved up 7 spots in this week’s edition of ESPN’s power rankings.
The Rebels are now No. 2 in the nation following their big win over LSU in Week 3. Their résumé also includes a victory over Louisville, which rose in the rankings to No. 17 this week. That gives Ole Miss a pair of victories over top 25 teams.
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was spectacular, throwing for 2 touchdowns and running for another that proved to be the difference in the game.

After watching Chambliss work his magic in the Rebels’ 32-24 victory against LSU on Saturday, Kiffin might have wondered if a better legal strategy could have helped his team. Instead of trying to get two former NFL players on its roster, LSU might have been better off trying to overturn Chambliss’ court injunction that allowed him to play a sixth season of college football. The one-time Division II star completed 33 of 48 passes for 363 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for a 14-yard touchdown with 6:14 to play, which ended up being the winner. He’s clearly among the early Heisman Trophy favorites.
Ole Miss still has a very tough schedule ahead, including a game against Florida on the road this week. However, the Rebels now have some margin-for-error as they look to get back to the College Football Playoff for a second straight season.
Ole Miss will face UF at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in Gainesville.
