Ole Miss upsets Alabama, advances to semifinals of SEC Tournament
Ole Miss defeated Alabama 80-79 in Nashville on Friday night, continuing its improbable run at the SEC Tournament.
The 15th-seeded Rebels have now pulled off 3 consecutive upsets and will face either Oklahoma or Arkansas in the semifinals on Saturday.
Ole Miss jumped out to an early lead over Alabama and was in control for much of this game. The Rebels had a 47-41 lead at the half and were able to keep the Crimson Tide at arm’s length in the second half.
Alabama did have a chance to take the lead in the final seconds, but the Rebels forced a miss from Aiden Sherrell to secure the win.
AJ Storr led Ole Miss with 17 points off the bench. As a team, Ole Miss shot 42% from beyond the arc while holding Alabama to just 31% shooting from downtown. The Tide also shot just 40% from the floor and Ole Miss led by as many as 14 points.
This result could have significant NCAA Tournament implications. Ole Miss is now just 2 wins away from securing an automatic bid.
