This week we saw a few teams really come out of their shell and show us what they’re all about. There isnโt any doubt on this weekโs version of overrated/underrated.
OVERRATED: SOUTH CAROLINA
For people whoย didnโt watch the game or read anything about it, there was a turnover on sixย consecutive possessions in this game. The score ended up 37-12, but the Gamecocks were definitely trying to put together a much better offensive performance heading into next weekโs rivalry game against Clemson.
I hate calling out my own team, but they were big-time favorites in this game and sort of laid an egg against South Alabama. Iโm not trying to take anything at all away from South Alabama, but the Gamecocks should’ve played much better on offense and the game shouldnโt have been this close. So for that reason I have to say the Gamecocks were the most overrated team this weekend.
That said, I think we beat Clemson next week and make it six consecutive years beating the Tigers.
UNDERRATED: ARKANSAS DEFENSE
This was a really tough one for me to decide. Two teams that have been severely underrated throughout the entire season and now are clicking on all cylinders: Arkansas and Missouri. But I’mย just going to pick one.
I am going with the Arkansas Razorbacks defense. Yes, the Razorbacks defense. They have pitched back-to-back shutouts against ranked teams. Not only have they shut out their last two opponents, but they have been playing well all season. They’re currently 16th overall in points against, giving up 20.2 points a game.
That’s impressive givenย theirย tough schedule and the types of offenses they’ve been playing. We all know about how good their running game is and how big that offensive line is, but it seems that all of us has forgotten about their defense until recently. They will have their hands full this week trying to contain Maty Mauk and the Missouri Tigers offense, but those guys are flying around and playing very good football right now.
The Man. The Myth. The Legend.
