Pair of UAB football players stabbed at football facility before game, per report

Two UAB football players and multiple others were reportedly stabbed on Saturday morning just hours before the Blazers’ matchup against South Florida.
UAB Police and Public Safety is currently investigating the assault, which took place at the UAB Football Operations center according to a school spokesperson. One person, another member of the football team, has been taken into custody.
Here’s the statement from the spokesperson, via AL.com:
“UAB Police and Public Safety is investigating an assault that took place this morning at the Football Operations Center. Injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. The suspect is in custody, and there is no threat to campus.”
A statement from UAB released hours after stabbing states that both players are in stable condition. The statement also confirms that another player perpetrated the stabbings.
This incident took place just hours before UAB’s matchup against South Florida in Birmingham. The Blazers, 3-7 on the season, are facing a team that just lost a chance at representing the G5 in the College Football Playoff. No word has been given on the status of the game, which is set to kick off at 3 p.m. ET/2p.m. CT.
