Paul Finebaum describes Lane Kiffin as ‘out of sorts, like a zombie’ in LSU-Ole Miss game

The biggest storyline heading into Week 3 of the college football season was the long-awaited return of LSU head coach Lane Kiffin to Oxford for a top-10 matchup with his former program.
Kiffin left Ole Miss for Baton Rouge in disgrace last November after a tumultuous courtship with several other programs, alienating the fanbase he had once endeared himself to as a result.
It’s safe to say Kiffin’s return to The Grove didn’t go the way he hoped, as his former program handed him the first loss of his tenure at LSU to the delight of everyone in attendance. SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum broke down the loss on First Take Monday morning and said it was very clear to him that Kiffin was not his usual self during the game.
“He seemed out of sorts the entire game,” Finebaum said. “He seemed uptight, and really more so than any time I have seen him, other than maybe when he used to face Nick Saban every year and blow that game because he wanted to win so bad… He almost seemed like a zombie, and his team seemed to be representative of that.”
There’s no denying Kiffin was far from his usual self while roaming the sideline, and that energy shift seemed to rub off on his LSU squad on the field, as Finebaum suggests.
It’s clear the enormous amount of pressure Kiffin put on himself going into this drama-filled matchup was too much for even him to handle, and it led to his team falling flat in what is likely to be the biggest game they play all season.
