Paul Finebaum has covered Nick Saban for years now, and has become a top commentator on the Alabama legend, and the SEC in general.
So, when he saw the recent news of Saban’s extension, which runs through 2030, he had some thoughts.
Joining “College GameDay on ESPN Radio” on Saturday, Finebaum explained why he doesn’t think Saban will coach all the way through the end of his current deal:

“I’ve covered Nick Saban every day since he’s been in the SEC,” Finebaum said. “But I don’t believe he’s going to go that long. I think, at some point, you run out of gas. I think the real issue for Saban isn’t so much his age. It’s the fact that Jimbo Fisher, recruiting like he has, and Kirby Smart the way he’s been doing the past 5 or 6 years, are going to start squeezing Saban a little bit.
“And that one year when things don’t work out at the quarterback position and maybe his line breaks down and an unfortunate injury and he goes 9-3, I think he’ll find out he hates the job.”
Will Finebaum be proven right? It might depend on how many more titles Saban and the Crimson Tide win over the next few years. They’ll enter 2022 as the title favorites once again.
