Paul Finebaum, Heather Dinich name the ‘most complete’ team in the SEC through Week 5
Through five weeks of play, the SEC’s traditional powers are looking as large and in charge as ever. The Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs are both 5-0 (3-0 SEC) ahead of their Week 6 showdown.
We’ll have an answer seven days from now, but for the time being, we’re left debating who’s the “more complete” team. ESPN’s Heather Dinich and Paul Finebaum were posed that question following Alabama and Georgia’s dominant Week 5, but were split in their beliefs.
“You have to say Georgia, because of the way they’ve played on both sides of the ball,” Dinich said. “They’re No. 3 in the country in total efficiency… No. 1 in offensive efficiency. I don’t think Gunner Stockton isn’t getting enough credit for what they’re doing.”
Dinich noted the Bulldogs have only faced the No. 97 schedule in the country, but to her, that hurts their standing in the potential College Football Playoff seeding discussion, not the “most complete” debate. Finebaum agreed the metrics support Georgia’s case, but he’s going with the Crimson Tide.
“If you look at it, Georgia does look like the best team. But I was on the sidelines yesterday in Starkville, and if you use the eye test… Alabama looks like the most complete and best team,” Finebaum said. “They were dynamic in every aspect of the game.”
Kirby Smart and Kalen DeBoer face off in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night (7:30 p.m. E.T., ABC).
