Paul Finebaum praises Big Ten, SEC for approving bans on pro players returning to CFB

College football was thrown into a bit of a tailspin earlier this week when former Ole Miss tight end Dae’Quan Wright announced his intention to depart from the Cleveland Browns and join his former coach Lane Kiffin at LSU.
This, naturally, caused a massive uproar among fans and analysts alike and ultimately led the Big Ten and SEC to officially ban pro players from returning to the college ranks.
SEC Network mainstay Paul Finebaum joined First Take on Wednesday morning to discuss these latest developments on the college football front, and he praised the sport’s 2 biggest conferences for their respective bans on pro players.
“I think that the Big Ten and the SEC have acted correctly,” Finebaum said. “You just cannot let all of this happen without saying something, especially when they believe that they have the right to meet out penalties… They can be in charge of their own league, and their essentially saying ‘You can have this guy on your roster, but we will penalize you.’ They didn’t exactly say what, but the sense is that the penalty will be severe, including suspension or perhaps forfeiture.”

With all of the crazy developments that have occurred over the past few months, seeing the 2 biggest powers in collegiate athletics band together and put their foot down for once is certainly a breath of fresh air.
That being said, it remains to be seen whether this is a permanent fix, or just a temporary stopgap that will be worked around in the coming months.
