Paul Finebaum has been a big supporter of Steve Sarkisian during his time as the coach at Texas. During an appearance on Get Up on Friday, Finebaum started to change his tune as he questioned what Sarkisian’s future could be at Texas moving forward.

“I think this weekend is going to determine that, Greeny,” Finebaum said when asked about the stakes in the game against Ole Miss. “As big a game as this is for Arch Manning, and when it is over, I think he will have a better idea. I think it is even a bigger game for Sarkisian.

“If Texas loses this game, Sarkisian is the one with the bullseye on his back. Manning can figure out what he wants to do. Sarkisian may not have any runway left because that is how fast this fanbase can turn on him.”

It was only two weeks ago that Texas was going into the Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma undefeated and ranked as the No. 1 team in the country. Even in that game, the Longhorns got up 17-7 early were on their way to getting a big win. However, the Sooner came back and got the 27-24 upset.

Things got much worse last week as the Longhorns once again blew double-digit lead and lost at home to unranked Florida.

It doesn’t get any easier on Saturday, as the Longhorns face a red-hot Ole Miss team that is looking like a legitimate contender in the SEC. If the Longhorns lose on Saturday, their chances at the College Football Playoff is in major jeopardy. As Finebaum implied, Sarkisian’s job security would also start to be in jeopardy.
