The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs are hitting the road this weekend for what could end up being the biggest game of the entire college football season against Kalen DeBoer and the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide.
This will be the fourth time in the past 2 years that the Tide and the Dawgs have faced off, and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has the opportunity to finally shake his Alabama demons with what would be a second consecutive win over the program that has caused him more trouble than any other during his tenure in Athens.
SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum touched on Smart’s issues getting over the Crimson Tide hump on Get Up Friday morning, saying that the head coach for the Dawgs has an “Alabama problem.”
“Georgia has an Alabama problem, and so does Kirby Smart,” Finebaum said. “I’m well aware, Greeny, that Georgia won the last game. It was in the SEC Championship Game… But the problem is that Kirby Smart has yet to beat Alabama in the regular season. You know this by now, but Alabama has beaten Georgia every game in the regular season since 2007, when Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown in overtime to beat Nick Saban in his first season.”

Finebaum isn’t exactly breaking any news here, as Smart’s 2-7 record against the program he spent almost a decade as an assistant coach at is well documented at this point. He’s arguably had the better squad and was the higher-ranked team in each of his previous 3 losses against the Tide, and he looks to have the better team on paper this year as well.
If he can finally get that long-awaited regular-season win, and he does it in Tuscaloosa, then he may finally be able to rest this narrative after over a decade of struggle against Alabama.
