College football fans don’t want NFL players returning to college football. However, as we’ve come to see, college football doesn’t always operate in fans’ interests.
To many, Dae’Quan Wright playing for the LSU Tigers would not be good for college football. It’s so clear and obvious to Paul Finebaum that he believes the SEC needs to stop it from happening. He made his plea for commissioner Greg Sankey to intervene on today’s episode of First Take.
“[Greg Sankey] is a very meticulous, careful, individual… I have no doubt that he is trying to convene all of his presidents — with the exception of the renegade school, LSU — and try to come up with a statement that they feel like sends a message, but holds up in Louisiana court,” Finebaum said. “Remember the [Brendan] Sorsby situation… everyone was outraged. And finally, the Big 12 came together and found a way out. That’s what the SEC has to do.”
Wright spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons at Ole Miss, recording 66 catches for 1,029 yards and nine touchdowns for the Rebels. He’s attempting to reunite with head coach Lane Kiffin at LSU after participating in Cleveland Browns’ training camp. He did not make a catch in either of Cleveland’s first two preseason contests.
