Paul Finebaum says Shane Beamer is ‘out of time’ following loss to Kentucky
Hot seats across the country are beginning to sizzle as the season moves into October, and per usual, the SEC features a handful of coaches who are feeling the heat.
For the moment, perhaps no other name is in the spotlight like Shane Beamer, whose South Carolina side just dropped to 2-3 on the year following a heartbreaking 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky.
With this 2026 campaign being considered a make-or-break season for Beamer’s tenure in Columbia after he guided the Gamecocks to just 4 wins last fall, the start has led many to call for his job.
That includes ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, who exclaimed that the clock is ticking when it comes to Beamer’s job security.
“You could even see towards the end of that game, despite how great of a game it was, that there were some empty seats. And Athletic Directors keep their eyes on that,” Finebaum said. “When you have three losses by the start of October, you have to now find a way to cobble a good season together. And you’re not going to because you’ll have four losses by the end of next week.”
Finebaum went on to ponder when USC may look to make the move, as the Gamecocks have a bye week following their trip to Gainesville next weekend.
“Are there any South Carolina fans that still have faith in Shane Beamer?” Finebaum said. “When a first-year head coach dials up a dagger through your heart, you’re out of time.”
