Pete Golding and the Ole Miss Rebels are gearing up for a huge game in Week 8 as they travel to Austin to take on a Texas team that is reeling. The Rebels were able to make it to the College Football Playoff semifinals last year, and once again have a team that is capable of making a run.
The conversation is heating up around college football with the expected move to a 24-team playoff. While many fans and media members are upset about the expansion, Golding believes the new playoff could actually be healthy for the sport.
“Once we’ve gone to the nine-SEC model, I think they were concerned about watering down the regular season,” Golding told reporters on Monday. “I think it would be really healthy for college football.”
For the people who are against it, one of the biggest issues is that they believe that it will take away from the regular season. There have been schools that aren’t scheduling big non-conference games because they don’t want to take a loss and be in trouble of missing the CFP.
Golding is one of the first coaches who have come out with this point of view, and it will be interesting to see if there are other coaches who share the same thoughts.
