The LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels have a lot of familiarity with one another. When one school lifts coaches and players from another, that’s bound to happen. And as a head coach, you can’t take any chances if you’re going to face that new school the next season.
During Saturday’s episode of College GameDay, Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding told Rece Davis that the Rebels ditched all of their 2025 signals and implemented an entirely new system throughout the offseason.
“This is a unique week, based on the crossover,” Golding admitted. “You don’t always change every signal. Going into this season, we did… that’ll be a big piece.”
Golding said he hopes the game comes down to “11 guys on the field [executing] at a high level.”
Kiffin’s offense and Golding’s defense going head-to-head may be the background matchup in this game. Instead, it’s Ole Miss’ offense — led by superstar quarterback Trinidad Chambliss — and LSU’s defense drawing attention.
The Rebels have not shown any loss of explosiveness despite Kiffin and offensive coordinator Charlier Weis Jr’s departure, posting 41 points in their wins over Louisville and Charlotte to open the season. Conversely, the Tigers have yielded only 284 yards and 17 points through two games. Whichever unit prevails will dictate whether it’s LSU or Ole Miss coming out on top tonight (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC).
