A recent hot name in the coaching carousel has re-upped with his current school and therefore will not be coming to an SEC school near you. Iowa State has announced a new contract extension with Matt Campbell through the 2025 season.

Campbell is 26-24 in his fourth season with the Cyclones, as they had a 7-5 record in the regular season. He previously coached at Toledo for 5 seasons with a 35-15 record. Campbell has been on coaching lists in recent years during the hiring season, and most recently mentioned for openings at Missouri and Arkansas.

“I greatly appreciate Dr. (Wendy) Wintersteen’s and (Iowa State AD) Jamie’s (Pollard) proactive approach to extending my contract,” Campbell said in a statement. “My staff and I will be on the road this week actively recruiting the next class of Cyclones and it is important for recruits and their families to understand my commitment to Iowa State.”

The school said details of Campbell’s contract extension will be released at a later date.

Campbell led his 2019 team to a tie for third place in the Big 12 and a berth in a bowl game for the third season in a row. The Cyclones appeared in the College Football Playoff rankings for the third consecutive year.

The team will play in a bowl game for the third straight year with the opportunity to achieve three 8-win seasons in a row for only the second time in school history.
