Pulling a Joe Burrow? Todd McShay explains why Mac Jones is shooting up NFL draft boards

Alabama QB Mac Jones has played himself into the conversation for the Heisman Trophy, and one prominent NFL Draft analyst believes he’s also shot up the boards in NFL scouting circles as well.

ESPN’s Todd McShay is exceedingly impressed by Jones, who is fourth in America in passing yards with 366 per game, and third in completion percentage at 78.5. He’s thrown for 2,196 yards with 16 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

Jones enters a draft class that is well-stocked with high-end quarterbacks, from Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, to Ohio State’s Justin Fields, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance and BYU’s Zach Wilson. McShay believes those four, plus Jones, could go in the first round.

Is Jones the next Joe Burrow? Yes, in a sense.

“I’m not saying he’s going to be No. 1 overall, there’s no chance, he’s not going to be,” McShay said on ESPN’s Get Up. “But he’s going from off the radar to, and maybe not even starting as Greg (McElroy) well knows, they’ve got a freshman that was supposed to be the starter. He’s stepped in and refused to lose that job, and he’s gotten better and better every single game. He had the two Pick Sixes against Auburn last year, but bounced back and almost won that game. Played great against Michigan and he’s been on fire this year.”
