Blake Sims has done it again. Sims had yet another picture perfect pass, and coach Lane Kiffin celebrated before Sims even started his throwing motion.
In the last six quarters, we’ve seen a completely different Blake Sims. He’s a much more confident player and he’s making throws now that he wasn’t earlier in the season.
He has this offense clicking on all cylinders. Weโve seen Sims turn into possibly the best quarterback in the country the last sixย quarters.
First let me say this. That hit by Shane Ray shouldn’tย warrant an ejection. He didnโt lead with his head. It may look vicious, but I can assure you, those hits donโt really hurt that bad. It was definitely a late hit, but not ejection-worthy. Thatโs football, folks!
Now, here is Sims’ perfect pass.
Missouriย ranย a Cover 2 (two safeties deep) with two cornerbacks playing the flats.
As you can see in this second picture, the play-action got the linebackers to bite up, allowing Amari Cooper to run his crosser and get behind them without any resistance.
The boundary safety notices and the play forces himย to bite down on Cooper’sย deep crossing route (see yellow trajectory).
Cooperย probably could have taken the route a little deeper, but it still worked to perfection. Once Sims saw it was a Cover 2 and that the boundary safety tried to jump Cooperโs crosser, he just let it fly to DeAndrew White deep down the middle of the field in between both safeties.
That’s exactly how you draw it up as a coach and you can see that because Lane Kiffin signaled for a touchdown before Sims even throws the ball.
The Man. The Myth. The Legend.
