Quinn Ewers made it no secret he intended to leave Texas after the 2024 season, and he formalized his declaration for the 2025 NFL Draft on Wednesday.
Leading up to the Cotton Bowl matchup vs. Ohio State, Ewers revealed in a previously taped interview for ESPN that he had not given any thought to returning to the Longhorns — or a different destination in college — for the 2025 season. Any remaining drama or intrigue about the eventual decision was removed when Ewers released a video on Wednesday with his gratitude for Texas.
Here are the comments from Quinn Ewers:
These past 3 years have been some of the best years I could have imagined. The relationships I’ve built between coaches and teammates will last forever… With prayer and careful consideration, I’m officially declaring for the NFL Draft. Thank you, Hook ’em!
Ewers spent the 2022-24 seasons at Texas while appearing in 36 games. He went 21-5 as the team’s primary starter across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, leading the Longhorns to back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances.
After delivering a Big 12 Championship in 2023, Ewers guided Texas into its first-ever season as an SEC football member. The Longhorns would play in the SEC Championship Game in their first season before ultimately falling to Georgia.
While Ewers’ career might be overshadowed by some of the other elite QBs in Texas football history, he helped elevate the program in his own right alongside head coach Steve Sarkisian. If not for the arrival of Arch Manning, Ewers’ career would probably be remembered a bit differently.
As it stands, Ewers ranked 3rd on the Longhorns’ all-time passing list with 9,128 yards and 68 passing touchdowns.
